Our Love Affair With Paper Flowers

In the beginning of 2013, our very first bride Karen sent us this picture. The utterly beautiful Chanel 2009, fashion show backdrop, accompanied by this caption.
"If only the staircase for my wedding could look like that."

She was joking and genuinely not expecting our reply.
"Yes, yes, yes. Let's do it!"
As soon as we saw this image we instantly fell in love. What would look more stunning in a wedding than a staircase of paper flowers?

Karen's venue was The Atheneum in Liverpool. If you aren't aware of it, check it out, just behind Primark you will find this amazing hidden gem. Inside it has the most beautiful cast iron, spiral staircase spinning up the whole of the building.

After seeing the staircase and with Chanel as our inspiration, that was that, we were in! We set to work and four weeks later with the help of our assistant Emily, we created 300 small flowers and over 100 large ones.

Then the day came. On the first Saturday of June, we dressed the wedding of Karen and Lee. It has been one of our career highlights and we still receive amazing feedback about the day now. In fact, you can read about the whole thing on Rock My Wedding.

As you can imagine, we took hundreds of photos, but when Claire Penn, photographer extraordinaire is around, you really do leave it to the experts.

Since that day, we have had a lot of flower bookings and experimented with paper styles and size. Every flower we make is completely hand crafted by us and we can create them using a wide range of materials and colours.

If you would like to order some for your own celebration, do not hesitate to get in touch. We love any excuse to get our scissors out and create something beautiful.

Birmingham. We still love you.

Did you know, that if it wasn't for the wonderful city of Birmingham, there would be no Strange Case? We love Birmingham. We met there, we studied there and from 2007-2010 we lived there. Since moving back to Liverpool and starting SCC we haven't had the time to re-visit as much as we'd like to. We've been planning on returning for a while and when a pretty awesome email popped into our inbox, it gave us the perfect opportunity to go back.

Yesterday, Laura, Nicola and I jumped the train down to Birmingham and had the most wonderful time. Only having 8 hours in our old home, we gave Nicola a whistle stop tour of our old stomping ground, pointing out classics like Snobs, University halls and an array of architecture. In case you're not familiar with Birmingham, 'Snobs' was the go-to club for students throughout Birmingham.

First stop was the always colourful Digbeth, armed with a box of Laura's Little Bakery cupcakes, we headed to Fazeley Studios to meet the dream team behind Birmingham's Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza. Who were also the ladies behind the wonderful email that popped into our inbox, in case you were wondering.

The wonders of Digbeth, including Fazeley Studios bottom right.

It's safe to say the cakes went down very well with Sassy and Jo and we chatted over coffee in the gorgeous venue. We're exhibiting at the show in November and getting to hear more about what they have planned, get a tour of the location and finally meet the faces behind Assassynation and The Couture Company was brilliant. We have a whole post to come about EWE, but for now head over to their website to hear more about how amazing this alternative wedding fayre is.

After we ate all the cakes, we said goodbye to team EWE and walked the length of Birmingham. Stopping along the way for coffee, food, snacks and lots of photos. Unfortunately it rained the whole time, but we didn't let that dampen our spirits. (Pardon the pun!)

It was great to re-visit Birmingham. We have a lot of memories there and getting to see how much it's changed was brilliant. It was great to show Nicola around the city too and hear the perspective of someone who has never been before.

See you in November Birmingham, it's going to be a fun one!
